Die Blueslady Akina McKenzie hat eine lange Reise hinter sich und grosse Lebensgeschichten zu erzählen. In ihren tiefgründigen Songs bringt sie uns stilecht und zugleich innovativ Blues, Folk und Jazz. Ob sie rockt oder einfach swingt – Emotionen pur!

Geboren im sonnigen Kalifornien, lebt Akina McKenzie heute in ihrer Wahlheimat Winterthur. Die erfahrene Künstlerin hat bereits auf vielen Bühnen in der Schweiz, Italien, Frankreich, Deutschland und Belgien das Publikum begeistert, unter anderem auch am berühmten Montreux Jazz Festival. Nach ihrem Debütalbum “Miracle Man“ (2016) fing sie sofort an, ihren zweiten Longplayer zu schreiben. „Am Anfang war nur eines klar: es sollte ein Meisterwerk werden“, schmunzelt sie. So entstand zwischen Tourneen schliesslich über einen Zeitraum von drei Jahren ihr neues Album „The Black Phoenix“ (2019).

Von kraftvoll geschrummt bis weich gezupft, von gegroovt bis schwebend, von kantig knurrend bis sanft gesungen. Stets spielt sie ihre sehnsüchtigen Lieder mit einem eleganten Stolz und voller Hingabe – wie ein kleines Geheimnis in einem Lächeln. Heute bringt sie diese Geheimnisse in ihrer Musik ins Atlantis!

Her dark voice – like velvet and smoke – reminds of Nina Simone. Her complex guitar-playing – like wood and bones – evokes Robert Johnson. And still: she’s got a style of her own. The young blues lady Akina McKenzie has travelled long journeys and has big life stories to tell. In her deep songs she authentically yet innovatively brings us blues, folk and jazz. Whether she’s rocking or just swinging – pure emotions!

Born in the boiling heat of Los Angles, Akina McKenzie now lives in Switzerland. The experienced artist has delighted her audiences on many stages in Switzerland, Italy, France, Germany and Belgium. She even performed at the famous Montreux Jazz Festival. After her debut album “Miracle Man” (2016), the songwriter immediately started to work on her second longplayer. “At the beginning I just knew one thing: this will be a masterpiece”, she smilingly recalls. Thus, between tours, the new album “The Black Phoenix” (2019) was created over a period of three years.

From intense strumming to soft picking, from driving grooves to hovering sounds, from edgy growls to gentle hums. At all times, she plays her wistful songs with an elegant pride and full of devotion – like a little secret carried with a smile. Tonight she brings us these secrets here to Atlantis!
